CAREERS GUIDES FOR PARENTS

Here at Stephenson Studio School you have access to a fully qualified Careers Adviser, Mr. Lambeth. Following over ten years working for the local youth Careers service, Connexions, and Prospects, in local schools, I am able to offer my knowledge and experience to our students.

Many students have already had a Careers meeting with me. For those who haven’t, a Careers meeting is where I invite students for a 1-1 meeting, usually after lunch, for around 20 minutes. The meetings are to find out if they have an idea in mind of what they’d like to do when you leave the school, e.g. college, apprenticeships. I also ask them if they have a long-term career idea, and for those who don’t I can tell them about websites, online quizzes etc. to help them come up with some ideas. My meetings are very conversational, and as the students know me already through my other role as an LSA. Hopefully this will allow them to relax and open up about their thoughts and ideas about their future career. After careers meetings, I produce an action plan, so parents/students have a document to reflect on what we talked about, and I give some action points also, i.e. use a certain website to research your career idea further. The action plans are posted directly to parents.

As you are aware, we aren’t in school at present due to the Coronavirus, so if you have any questions about the careers support at the Studio School, feel free to contact me - clambeth@stephensonstudioschool.co.uk

Below I have listed some key websites for students/parents to go on during your time home studying. I’ve put down which year groups would benefit from looking at each link. For parents of year 10 students, now is a great time for them to begin researching career ideas, looking on college websites to see what courses are on offer, and even use YouTube to view people talking about/carrying out a job role they are interested in.

I hope you and your families are well,

Many thanks

Mr.Lambeth
